Jimmy approaches Clark, worried for the safety of his mother Mrs Olsen. He explains that his father ran a small candy store until his death 3 years before and his mother now takes care of the store. Mrs Olsen, and the rest of the shop owners on the street, are being extorted by the racketeer Gip Dinnelli for $20 a week 'protection money'. Clarke agrees to meet Mrs Olsen and he and Jimmy pay a visit. Clark hides behind the counter and instructs Mrs Olsen to refuse to pay, he then confronts the money collector who attacks Clark and knocks him down after Clark threatens to call the police. Of course Clark was only pretending to be injured but this looks like a job for Superman.. surely he can get to the bottom of the Dinnelli protection racket?..
