Lou Charles is a ‘Martian’ who approaches an advertising agency to create and run a publicity campaign for him advertising the coming of the Martians. Naturally the agency doesn’t believe Lou to be a real Martian and is reluctant until a $1 million fee is agreed on. A parade is to be organised with the theme “the world of tomorrow” and unleashed on June 1st. Soon the whole city is enthralled in preparations for the parade, novelty goods are produced, posters painted and kids handed Martian hats to wear. The day of the parade arrives and a fleet of “Martians” march down the street.
-Ending/Twist-
A contact of the advertising agency calls to apologise for not being able to provide any extras for the Martian parade army which causes the realisation that they may be real Martians. Sensing danger the police are approached but do not believe the story and refuse to stop the parade thinking it is yet another publicity stunt. Lou Charles returns and reveals that the invasion plan was to generate a publicity stunt to exploit the advertising-driven nature of mankind. But its too late to stop the attack.
