Something a bit different today..we proudly present a classic episode from the Jack Benny Program. This episode deals with the circumstances surrounding the first meeting of Jack and Fred Allen who would go on to feud for a decade - although in reality they were very close friends. Airing in January 1950, this episode has some really funny moments such as describing Mary's sister's looks:
Jack: "she never was exactly voted Miss America"
Mary: "No, but she came close.."
Jack: "Close?"
Mary: "Mr America"
And in a funny call back to the previous show when the musicians failed to perform a piece as rehearsed, Jack punishes them by closing them in a room making them perform it 500 times and checks back often to make sure they are still playing.

I had heard about this “feud” before on American programmes but had no idea what it entailed. The show is harmless fun, it’s the comic timing that impresses and some of the jokes are still really quite funny.
There are certainly nods to this in the Simpsons, usually through Krusty.
